Medium: Wire, Hot Glue, String
My creative process for this project had a huge influence from horror films and drag queens. One of my addictions are creepy and eerie things. Which I decided would be my main subject for this project. I also have a huge obsession of drag queens, especially Sharon Needles, a Philadelphia drag queen who often takes inspiration from horror and her sayings include "Happy Halloween" and "Hail Satan." Thinking of what I could so, I looked to Sharon's video "Call Me On the Ouija Board," where she was dressed up as a character from the exorcist. In that video, she had crazy hair and that was my first thought. I then decided that I should do a sort of head with crazy hair. After creating the head and weaving the hair, I decided I wanted to make it look old and untouched. Looking at the available materials, which were very limited, I decided I should use the hot glue gun to create a sort of cobweb effect in the hair, and make the face look as if it was melting off. The red string I added was to symbolize that though your heart is in your chest, sometimes you have to have a little bit of your heart in your head to make the best decisions. Therefore, I added the string heart within the head and added "veins" of red string to the hair. And voila! This piece was born!
